ALMOST HOME

He sat across the table from me recounting the story. It was lunch time in Bucaramanga, Colombia and the restaurant was alive with conversations in Spanish. In our corner of the restaurant Omar paused every few sentences to allow the interpreter to translate. I heard the words “cuarenta años” and wouldn’t soon forget them.

The Seminary in Bucaramanga was started 40 years (cuarenta años) earlier in the side room of a church. With plans to someday have their own facility, they met in church facilities and several different rented houses over the years. They moved locations over 14 times while actively praying for a location to finally call home, to provide stability for the school and the ability to attract more students. 40 years - cuarenta años. Sounds like a story out of the Bible.

Omar continued to share how they felt all alone. The honest questions were being asked: “is this meant to be?”
